{"id":173,"date":"2009-05-21T09:23:17","date_gmt":"2009-05-21T16:23:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tibetantailor.com\/?p=173"},"modified":"2009-05-21T09:32:14","modified_gmt":"2009-05-21T16:32:14","slug":"sketching-out-typographic-study-for-first-blood-movie-poster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tibetantailor.com\/?p=173","title":{"rendered":"Sketching out Typographic Study for &#8220;First Blood&#8221; Movie Poster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of my project in a class I took was creating a movie poster. \u00a0I chose &#8220;First Blood&#8221; the 1982 action adventure movie with Sylvester Stallone as John Ramb, a Vietnam War\u00a0veteran.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-177\" title=\"img_07792\" src=\"http:\/\/tibetantailor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/img_07792-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"img_07792\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/tibetantailor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/img_07792-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/tibetantailor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/img_07792-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/tibetantailor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/img_07792.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/> A great movie that harkens back to the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leatherstocking_Tales\">Leatherstocking Tales of Natty Bumppo<\/a> by American writer James Fenimore Cooper who wrote The Deerslayer and The Last of the Mohicans among others.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see in the image I choose something inspired by the typefaces of the &#8220;Arts &amp; Crafts&#8221;\u00a0designers\u00a0of the early 20th century. The Arts &amp; Crafts movement tried to bring nature inside, into the home. \u00a0In the movie there is tension between the nature and civilized society represented by the town. \u00a0Rambo is of nature and he doesn&#8217;t seem to\u00a0exist\u00a0well &#8220;inside&#8221; society.Gustav Stickley produced his Craftman furniture in Syracuse New York. \u00a0This is near the area where the Leatherstocking Tales take place. \u00a0The contemporary\u00a0type-house\u00a0\u00a0who produces the typeface I choose is Woodside Graphics, which is located in the woods in the North West of the US. \u00a0That is very near the location where First Blood was filmed.<\/p>\n<p>I like the &#8220;hand&#8221; look of the typeface which I think speaks to the way Rambo had to survive by things he made by hand, not with the fancy weapons those he fought against used. I like the bent wood look which speaks to the deep woods location the film.
