I made one list of 10 things to help me review global navigations. \u00a0I am not sure if this is useful for anyone else, but I thought I would share. You have been warned it is on the super geeky side of of information architecture.<\/p>\n<p>Much of this comes from cognitive anthropology and my reading of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Sorting-Things-Out-Classification-Consequences\/dp\/0262024616\">Sorting Things Out: Classification and Its Consequences by Geoffrey C Bowker and Susan Leigh Star.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"font-style: normal; font-weight: normal;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>10\u00a0Commandments\u00a0of\u00a0Classification\u00a0Scheme Analysis<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>There should be no need for multiple classifications.<\/li>\n<li>The granularity of terms must be appropriate across classifications.<\/li>\n<li>Cross-referencing must be obvious within a\u00a0classification.<\/li>\n<li>The classification should not be based on just one audience.<\/li>\n<li>Labels for the same content should be the same.<\/li>\n<li>Vocabulary terms should clearly describe everything that is included under them.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure classifications include all necessary terms (comprehensive selection.)<\/li>\n<li>Beware the\u00a0unlabeled\u00a0covert categories.
